5 Easy Holiday Traditions You Can Add To Your List

Who doesn’t love a good holiday tradition? It’s a mix of all things holiday with the nostalgia of traditions you may have grown up with. These traditions are some of the things that I did growing up as a kid, newer ones that I’ve begun with my husband, and even newer ones I plan to continue with our growing family.

1. Annual Family Cookie Bake

Whether this is a whole family affair, something you do by yourself, or something you do with your kids … baking cookies is a sure way to get in the holiday spirit. Whip up a classic gingerbread cookie or get creative and try something new. Check out my previous blog post to see my all time favorite cookie I bake every year during our family cookie bake along with some more pictures of the endless … and I mean ENDLESS … amounts of cookies that are baked.

2. Christmas Eve Dinner

What better and more festive food to have the night before Christmas then … Tacos! Yup, you heard me, Tacos. My husband and I started this tradition a few years ago when my mother-in-law came to visit us in Florida for Christmas. It’s one of the easiest meals to make, not to mention delicious. We’ve been making it ever since. Choose something you and your family love and just make it a tradition by cooking it every Christmas Eve. No need to be festive or “Christmas-ey” … just yummy!

3. Easy Christmas Breakfast

Now what better to follow Christmas Eve Dinner than Christmas Breakfast? This French Toast Bake is so delicious and so easy! The best part … you can make it the night before then just throw it in the oven in the morning and voila! With all the craziness of opening presents Christmas morning sometimes the last thing you want to worry about is slaving in the kitchen. Throw it in the oven, spend time with your family opening presents / unstuffing stockings, then eat when you’re ready!

4. Stocking Stuffers

Honestly, I can’t say I know what other people/families put in their stockings so this may just be a “yeah that’s what everyone does” thing. When I was a kid, stocking stuffers were always the basics … new toothbrush/toothpaste, some kind of self-care product (face wipes, nail polish), always some yummy chocolate, a few other random knick-knacks, and my favorite … Christmas scratch-off tickets. All of these items are easy, inexpensive, and enjoyable. The scratch off tickets definitely add a little fun and flare to the stockings. I even stuff some in the doggies stocking too!

5. SANTA … Always!

What is Christmas without Santa? Now this tradition is all up to you and your families’ beliefs but Santa visits every year, every person, no matter the age. Whenever I go to my Mom’s, there’s always a present that says “From: Santa   To: Alexa.” Now mind you, I’m 30 and my “little” brother is 25 … so she could just give us presents and not worry about the tags. No matter your age though, or your beliefs, I still believe there’s something magical about getting a present “From: Santa” … it keeps the Christmas spirit alive.

There you have it! 5 easy traditions you can add to your family tradition list and change/alter as you see fit. Obviously we have a few more traditions we partake in around the holidays such as sending out Christmas cards and driving around to see Christmas lights.
